3 Signs Your Hot Water System Needs Servicing

Your hot water system is crucial in the smooth running of your house. You need hot water not only for showering but also to do dishes and sometimes your laundry. Hot water maintenance ensures that your heating system works efficiently.

Here are three signs that your hot water system needs servicing.

No Heat Consistency

For a system that is working correctly, the water temperature should be consistent. If it keeps changing, then there is a problem with your heating system. The water may get hot enough to burn your skin. That is usually a sign that there are mineral deposits around your heating element.

The mineral build-up blocks the heating element, which means it does not heat the water properly. It also overheats the tank. When the tank overheats, it can cause pressure problems. If you notice an inconsistency in your water pressure, call an electrician immediately. They can provide the necessary repair and service work.

Unusual Sounds

Water heating systems are not silent. However, there are noises that you do not expect to hear. When you hear popping sounds, they are an indication of mineral and sediment build-up in the water heating system. You can flush the system to get rid of it. When you hear screeching sounds, your water flow is restricted. Check to ensure that the valve is fully open. If not, open it, and the screeching noise will stop.

When you hear sizzling sounds, they are a sign that your water heater is leaking. Water is dripping on to the burner. You will not get hot water, and you may find puddles under your tank. Make an appointment with a qualified technician to make the necessary repairs.

Discoloured Water

The water out of your taps and showers should be colourless. If you notice that your hot water is rust coloured, you may have a sediment build-up in your water tank. Over time, minerals such as magnesium and calcium form particles that settle at the bottom of the tank. The build-up will cause your water to discolour.

The earliest sign of sediment build-up will be a rise in your energy needs. You may notice that your electricity or gas bill is much higher than usual. You can fix this problem by flushing the system. You must call a professional immediately after you notice the problem.

Hot water maintenance will ensure that your water heating system lasts a long time. Make sure you call a professional when you notice any of the above things.
